Jaisalmer Fort

This huge fort is also called the Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort since the near-white, yellow sandstone glows as if it is gold in the sun. The interiors of the complex have shops, hotels, and havelis, which are the traditional mansions of Rajasthan. It is inhabited, a living fort in every sense of the term; thus a great look into the culture of the city.

Location and Architecture: In the middle of the Thar desert in Rajasthan, India stands the magnificent Jaisalmer fort built right on the sand.

The fort has been constructed from yellow sandstone and its walls look as if they have been painted gold hence the name Golden Fort .

History: Jaisalmer Fort was built in the year 1156 AD by the Rawal or King Jaisal, belonging to the Rajput clan of Bhatti Gujjar this fort had been a powerful fort playing an important geopolitical position in the economic intersection of India with Persia Arabia Egypt and Africa.
